Why I love cycling with my child

It's Valentines Day and love is in the air! One of the huge loves of my life is cycling, and being able to share this passion with my children has been one of the joys of being a parent.

I asked other Cycle Sprog readers to share why they love cycling with their kids, and this is what they said:

Why I love cycling with my kids

I love cycling with my boys because it makes us all happy to be active in the fresh air (and I feel like supermum just getting to the next village!)

I'm so proud of how well my eldest can handle his bike, I was twice his age before I got the hang of it. Rachel Fletcher (above)

Emma Young told us "I love cycling with my children as they get me doing things that I wouldn’t normally attempt!"

Karla Kosta told us "I love cycling with my child as it let's us escape from all the stresses in life and we can just enjoy being out together and exploring new places. Also my middle daughter is autistic and the only time when she is fully relaxed is when she is riding so it makes everyone happier."

I love cycling with my son because we get time to laugh and chat and sing together without the distractions of home. It’s my favourite time! Kirsty Midgley (above)

My son hired me a bike and accompanied me on a day out downhilling for my 57th birthday.

I was hooked from then on.

For me, watching my boys develop the confidence and skills to explore new places is a real joy. I also like the fact that we can spend quality time together doing something we both love.

I'd love to hear why you love cycling with your child.

Cycle Sprog's most popular articles

Here at Cycle Sprog we help thousands of families each week find the information they need about kids bikes and cycling together as a family.

We've got hundreds of articles on the website, and we do hope you enjoy browsing them, but if you're in a hurry these are our most popular articles that will get you started.

Keep the school run rolling this term

Term is well underway, routines are settling in, and that makes now a good moment to build cycling into everyday life, not just at the start of term but for the weeks ahead.

If you've been meaning to try cycling to school, there's still no pressure to do it every day: even once a week is a great way to build confidence and get everyone comfortable on their bikes.

The mornings are noticeably cooler now, and the evenings are drawing in too, so it's worth thinking about layers, lights and waterproof bits sooner rather than later. A little planning helps: finding routes that avoid the worst of the traffic, and building in a bit of extra time while everyone gets used to riding in the dimmer light.

Whether it's the ride to the school gates, a weekend trail or just a spin round the block, every journey this term is a chance to build confidence, stay active and make cycling part of family life. Half term is coming up too, a great excuse for a longer ride together.

Explore our guides for getting kitted out for cooler days, route planning and tips to help your family cycle to school with confidence this term.
