Kidical Mass global action weekend September 2023
Kidical Mass is a global movement to allow children and young people to be able to safely and independently travel by cycle wherever they live.
A so-called "Kidical Mass" is a group cycle ride where people take over the streets to celebrate cycling and call for safer streets.
After several very successful global action weekends in 2022 and earlier in 2023, last weekend saw another coordinated effort across the world to get families and friends together to call for safer streets.
The action weekend was actually a week long and not just limited to Kidical Mass group cycle rides, but also included Bike Buses and Play Streets.
And what an excellent way to get ready for Cycle to School Week 2023, which is taking place this week!
Another AWESOME Kidical Mass in Bridgwater today! 🤩
SO MUCH support from bystanders and drivers! ❤️
Thank you to everyone who took part. 💪@kinderaufsrad @TravelSomerset @MikeSRigby#KidicalMass #StreetsforEveryone #StreetsforKids #StreetsForAll pic.twitter.com/8Lh07UrqFp— Bridgwater Area Cycling Campaign (@bwcyclecampaign) September 23, 2023
Kidical Mass has grown massively in the UK
The Kidical Mass movement has seen significant growth in the UK, showing that families want to cycle but often don't feel safe to do so.
At the time of writing, there are at least 41 groups actively organising Kidical Mass rides in the UK.
With a little help from existing groups, new groups have started and the handy 'how to set up a Kidical Mass' article is often referred to.

New Kidical Mass rides
A few groups held their first Kidical Mass ever, including Devizes, Falmouth and Sheffield.
Well done to all the people who came together and organised their first cycling protest!
Some first time organisers managed to drum up a spectacular number of participants.
The growing movement in the UK and the growing number of participants is showing that there's a real appetite for safe cycling infrastructure, to accommodate for all ages.
Well done to everyone who took part!

Next global action weekend
From 29 April until 5 May 2024 the next Kidical Mass global action week will be taking place.
If you're thinking of setting up a Kidical Mass ride in your own town, this is a great time to get started!
And don't forget a bubble machine 🙂
