We've summarised each of the features below so you can compare the Burley bike trailers and decide which one suits you best, plus at the end of this article is a video showing each of the trailers, and the key differences between them.

Burley Kids Bike Trailers - the basics

Burley are an American company, who specialise in making bike trailers. Most Burley bike trailers are designed to carry children but they also do trailers for pets or for cargo.

There's a few standard features on ALL their trailers, so we haven't listed them out each time. The features include UV protection, adjustable 5-point harness, wheel guards, roll cage and recessed helmet pocket for extra head room.

All Burley bike trailers are designed and rigorously tested to meet and exceed ASTM standards and requirements. In fact, Burley paved the way in creating these safety standards.

The aluminium structure and restraint system are all about safety and each trailer comes with a bright safety flag.

You can purchase an outside storage cover which is compatible with all Burley kids and pet trailers.

Additional hitches are available to allow you to use the trailer on more than one bicycle.

How trailers hitch to your bike

How a trailer attaches to your bike can often be an afterthought, resulting in you getting lost in online forums and trawling through websites that aren't specific to your bike or your trailer.

There are a lot of complicated variables when it comes to hitching a trailer to a bike, we're here to let you know that hitching the trailer might require some research and thinking and may require purchasing an additional part that doesn't come with the trailer, so please do bear this in mind when budgeting for your new trailer.

We have busted the jargon and created an easy-to-follow guide for working out how a trailer will hitch to your bike.

Deciding between the different Burley bike trailer models

We've listed out the main different Burley trailer models to help you decide which one will suit you best. It will help you decide between the Burley D'Lite vs Double and Burley Bee vs Honey Bee bike trailer.

Hire a bike trailer before you buy

If you’re not sure which trailer to buy and you’re based in the UK, we recommend the Kids Bike Trailer rental scheme – they’ll send you a trailer that you can use for a few weeks to check out whether it works for your family.

You can hire a basic bike trailer for as little as £25 for 3 days, delivered to your doorstep.

After the rental you can then buy the bike trailer from them, or send it back.

This is also a brilliant solution if you want to cycle with your kids when on holiday in the UK.

Burley Bee bike trailer (from £324)

The Burley Bee is possibly the most iconic kids bike trailer! It is a cycling-only trailer and it is available in two models - a single and a double.

It’s designed for all weather use on smooth surfaces, so you get an outer waterproof cover to keep your children dry when it rains, plus a mesh inner cover to keep nasty flying things out when it’s hot.

The Burley Bee has a funky little foot guard, a 5-point harness system and hammock-style seating.

A useful feature of the Burley Bee is the storage space at the back – we all know how much “stuff” you need to take with young children!

The Bee has a parking brake, so when you are stationary make sure to put the parking brake on.

The wheels are really easy to push on and pull off with the push button quick release.
