Choosing the right pedal bike for your child can feel like a daunting task. Get it right, though, and you’ll open the door to countless adventures, independence, and the joy of cycling. In this YOMO 24 review, we take a close look at the YOMO 24, a lightweight 24” wheel bike designed for children who are ready to step up from their 20” ride (from about age 7 or 8 years and over).
We’ve previously tested and loved two of their smaller bikes so we were excited to see how the 24” version would fare with our young tester, Erin. We'll be looking at first impressions, specifications, ride performance, and whether or not it lives up to expectations.

Weight - 5/5 - Up there with some of the lightest 24-inch kids' bikes
Value for money - 5/5 - Excellent value for money, for the same price as a Frog bike, you get a similar spec build plus disc brakes.

About our reviewer:
Erin is 7 years old and lives in the Lake District with her older sister and parents.
She regularly rides on quiet roads, gravel tracks, and around town. At 127 cm tall with a 56.5 cm inside leg, Erin is right on the cusp between bike sizes.
While YOMO’s size guide recommends a 20” bike for her measurements, we’ve found the YOMO 24 to be a great fit, giving her room to grow without being overwhelming.
Who are YOMO bikes?
YOMO Bikes is a UK-based children’s bike brand focused on building lightweight, affordable, and thoughtfully designed bikes that help kids fall in love with cycling. Their range includes balance bikes and pedal bikes in sizes from 14” to 26”, catering to every stage of a young rider’s journey.
We’ve previously reviewed two of their smaller bikes, both of which impressed us with their build quality and child-friendly features.
See our YOMO 14 Review: Is this the perfect first pedal bike? and YOMO 20 kids bike review for full details.
YOMO seems to be following in the footsteps of the much missed Islabikes, offering great value and performance for growing riders. The YOMO 24 continues this ethos, promising a smooth transition for children ready to size up.
First Impressions of the YOMO 24
Erin was thrilled to try out her “big bike” and couldn't wait to give it a go. She was initially unsure about the Shimano Rapidfire thumb shifter, having been used to grip shifters, but she soon got the hang of it and now prefers it – more on that below!
Her older sister, aged 10, had a touch of FOMO, although we’d hoped the 24” would fit her too, at 140 cm and with a 64 cm inside leg, she was just a little too tall.
The bike arrived well packaged, and assembly was straightforward: we just needed to attach the front wheel and adjust the handlebars. The quick-release levers on the seatpost made it easy to adjust the fit and tweak things for Erin’s comfort.
The build quality made an immediate impression, sleek lines, quality paintwork, and a design clearly focused on both function and style. It looked like a bike built for fun, and it didn’t disappoint.
YOMO 24 Specifications
The YOMO 24 is clearly designed with urban and light trail riding in mind. It’s lightweight and nimble, making it ideal for everyday family cycling adventures.
Erin took to the Tektro brakes straightaway. Despite having small hands, she could comfortably reach and modulate the levers thanks to the easy Allen key adjustment. The brakes have been reliable throughout our 5–6 months of testing, even in wet conditions or on slippery, leaf-covered corners. They’ve performed brilliantly on the steep descents near our home, offering predictable stopping power without skidding or jolting.
The Shimano 8-speed gearing system, operated via Rapidfire Plus thumb shifters, initially took some getting used to, but Erin quickly adapted. She now finds it quicker and easier to change gears and has been confidently shifting during hilly rides to maintain a smooth cadence.
The Kenda Small Block Eight tyres (24” x 1.50) strike a great balance between grip and efficiency. With their hybrid profile and relatively wide size, they provide good traction on gravel and tarmac, while also feeling fast and smooth. A big plus for safety: the tyres feature a bright reflective strip that’s incredibly visible in low-light or at night.
The Selle Royal Explora JNR saddle has Erin’s seal of approval, providing comfort for longer rides.
The pedals are sized appropriately for children, but we did have a minor maintenance issue. They came loose a couple of times during the first few rides. After a proper tightening, they’ve stayed put but are quite stiff, don't spin freely, and one makes a crunching noise when it’s rotating. We suspect this is the bearings of the pedal, and is covered under YOMO’s warranty.
[YOMO Bikes Statement on the issue:
"While we haven’t received similar reports of this pedal issue from other customers, we take every piece of feedback seriously. We’ve already contacted our factory, and all upcoming batches will include upgraded pedals with improved internal threading and a more robust spindle design. Our goal is always to offer the best possible bikes to our riders, and we continuously improve based on feedback. If any customer experiences a similar issue, we’ll resolve it quickly and make it right."]
Riding the YOMO 24
Over the past few months, Erin has put the YOMO 24 through its paces on short (4-8 mile) family rides, mostly on roads, with the occasional gravel track and campsite loop thrown in.
The bike excels on tarmac, it’s fast, smooth, and stable, with low rolling resistance that makes it easy for Erin to accelerate and keep pace with the family. She loves being at the front, especially when racing around campsites or zooming down country lanes.
It’s also been surprisingly capable on uneven paths and light gravel, offering enough grip and control to handle rougher patches with confidence. Erin has particularly enjoyed riding out of the saddle, and the frame geometry has allowed her to take a strong, balanced position when tackling descents, even hopping down small steps without hesitation.
The only ongoing issue has been the pedals, aside from a few minor paint chips from locking it up next to other bikes, the bike has held up incredibly well, no punctures, no mechanical issues, and it fits easily into our car boot once the wheels are removed.
Despite being at the lower end of the size range, Erin has found the bike manageable to ride and move around. She can manoeuvre through tight spaces and around bike barriers with ease.
Thoughts from the Sprog
“[The gears are] easier than the other one, I can change quicker too!”
“The seat is really comfy and I really like it!”
Overall verdict: Is the YOMO 24 a good bike?
The YOMO 24 is a fantastic kids’ bike, well-built and genuinely enjoyable to ride. It’s helped Erin grow in confidence, take on longer rides, and feel excited about cycling. With high-quality components and a design that’s clearly been developed with children in mind, it’s a brilliant option for families looking to upgrade from a 20” bike.
We’re genuinely impressed by how YOMO are stepping up to fill the gap left by brands like Islabikes, offering excellent value and performance in a growing market for child-specific bikes.
We’d absolutely recommend the YOMO 24 for families in need of a reliable, fun, and practical bike for school runs, countryside adventures, or just cruising around town.
Our only tip? If your child is close to the threshold between sizes, it might be worth sizing up YOMO’s size guide focuses on what fits now, rather than allowing for growth.
