At Cycle Sprog, we love cycling. We also love books. So when we find a cycling book aimed at inspiring young girls, especially at the age when so many start dropping out of sport, we get VERY excited.
That’s why we’re thrilled to let you know that the latest title in the brilliant Shred Girls series is now available for pre order!
“Shred Girls: Lindsay and The Curse of Gemini Lakes” is the newest adventure from cyclist, author and all-around endurance legend Molly Hurford, and it’s out now, in print, ebook AND audiobook (a first for Strong Girl Publishing!).
Set at a multi-sport summer camp in the mountains, Lindsay, Ali and Jen are back and facing mysterious goings-on at Gemini Lakes. From mountain biking and canoeing to strange curses and friendship challenges, this story promises a summer of adventure, mystery, and good old-fashioned girl power.
“This is our most exciting Shred Girls story yet,” says author Molly Hurford, founder of Strong Girl Publishing. “It’s about pushing past fear, making mistakes, growing up, and having a ridiculous amount of fun doing it. I wanted to give girls a summer camp story that felt adventurous, inclusive and filled with the kinds of sports that don’t always get represented in books."
We love how the Shred Girls books manage to combine fast-paced plots with genuinely empowering messages, showing girls that it's cool to be brave, sweaty, muddy, and bold.
And let’s not ignore the very real issue this series helps tackle: the heartbreaking fact that so many girls give up sport and cycling in their tween and early teen years. Stories like this really matter.
At Cycle Sprog, we see all too often how girls can start to disappear from cycling once they hit secondary school. That’s why books like Shred Girls are so important, because representation does make a difference. Girls need to see themselves doing epic things on bikes!
Strong Girl Publishing
Molly founded Strong Girl Publishing to give more girls the chance to see themselves in sport, and to give young women athletes the chance to tell their own stories. And they’re doing an awesome job.
If you’ve got a sporty reader in your life (or one who just loves a gripping mystery), you can order Shred Girls: Lindsay and The Curse of Gemini Lakes now at Strong Girl Publishing, and in the UK, it’s available at Amazon and due soon at Waterstones.
We’re so excited to get our hands on a copy, and we’ll be back soon with a mini review. Watch this space!
