Be Fun Wheels folding balance bike scores
Quality - 3/5 - Fine quality, plastic design which has proved robust during testing, a few gimmicks aren't ideal, but don't negatively affect the ride.
Weight - 4/5 - Sturdy plastic frame, which is lightweight compared to bikes in this price range.
Value for money - 4/5 - Clever features for a budget-friendly price tag.

About our reviewers:
Rebecca and Tom are keen cycling parents who use bikes both to explore new places and to reduce car journeys. They're just beginning their family cycling adventure and have been getting their two-year-old, T, started on two wheels.
The Be Fun Wheels balance bike was tested by the family at home and outdoors.
T first tried this bike when he had been walking for almost a full year, but with an inside leg measurement of 31cm at the time, it was too big for him. After some growing, the bike fit as the size guide said at 35cm inseam.
Be Fun Wheels brand overview
Be Fun Wheels is a relatively new brand that aims to innovate in the world of early-years cycling. Their flagship model, the Be Fun Wheels, is a folding balance bike designed for children aged 1 to 5. With a focus on convenience, portability, and ergonomic design, Be Fun’s approach is modern and parent-focused. The brand's key selling point is their patented "Smart Fold" system, allowing the bike to be collapsed quickly for transport or storage.
Their range currently focuses on a single core product, available in multiple colourways, with accessories such as a carry bag to support families on the go. BeFun Wheels bikes sit at the more affordable end of the market, offering accessible options for parents who want a functional, lightweight bike without spending a fortune.
First impressions of the Be Fun Wheels Balance Bike
The first thing that caught T’s attention was the mini compass embedded in the stem, not strictly necessary, but a fun and quirky detail that our toddler loved. The various buttons and levers used to adjust and fold the bike also grabbed interest straight away. However, the overriding reaction was that it’s quite a large bike, particularly for something marketed as suitable from “first walking” through to age five.
Our son, who is around the 85th percentile for height, wasn’t able to use the bike until just before his second birthday, almost a year after he started walking. Even now, while he measures within the stated size range, the bike feels slightly too big for him. We’d recommend a minimum height of around 85cm to get full use out of this model, despite the brand saying this bike is suitable from when your child starts walking.
That said, our first impressions of the Be Fun Wheels folding balance bike are generally very positive. We love the way it folds, quickly, simply, and with the handlebars detaching completely for compact storage. Adjustments to the size are intuitive, and the handlebar grips are well shaped to support small hands (though they did often rotate out of position). It’s also noticeably lighter and more portable than his current Giant balance bike- making it a much easier option for parents to carry when the toddler’s legs tire out.
Assembly was impressively straightforward, and we particularly appreciated the clever seat post design, which ensures the saddle is always aligned correctly thanks to a guiding channel.
On the downside, the all-plastic frame does give the bike a somewhat rattly and less premium feel.
Be Fun Wheels Balance Bike specifications
Be Fun Wheels describes their patented folding system as a “game-changer”, and we have to agree it’s a clever bit of engineering. It works smoothly, folds down quickly and intuitively, and adds a fun element for both children and parents. While not something we expect to use every day, it’s a welcome feature that’s genuinely well executed.
The bike’s adjustability is good. Both the saddle and handlebars can be altered without the need for tools, which is a huge help when you’re dealing with growing children. The stem has two vertical height settings, which will be useful as your child gets taller. One particular feature we really appreciated is the seat post design, which has a longitudinal notch that aligns with the frame, meaning the saddle always stays straight. It’s a simple but brilliant touch that takes the guesswork out of setup.
The plastic construction is simple and lightweight, although it does have a bit of a rattly feel, especially in the handlebar attachments and wheels. But it does feel like a good build quality for the price.
The puncture-proof EVA tyres are practical and maintenance-free, and offer a decent level of cushioning when riding over bumps.
There is a spring-based suspension system, but this felt more gimmicky than useful. The force needed to compress it is more than most toddlers will ever generate, so we’re not convinced it adds anything meaningful.
In terms of rider comfort, the bike is well designed. The saddle is shaped to support young riders as they learn to balance and scoot, and the handlebar grips are soft, easy to clean, and shaped to help little hands stay in place. We particularly liked the flared ends of the grips, which help prevent hands slipping off.
The integrated compass on the stem is fun, if not strictly necessary. It’s a bit of a novelty, but our toddler enjoyed it, and anything that encourages enthusiasm for riding is a win in our book.
Riding the Be Fun Wheels Balance Bike
We began using the Be Fun Wheels folding balance bike indoors; our kitchen and hallway became the initial testing ground, perfect for those early wobbles and for getting used to the feel of the bike in a safe, familiar space that focused on playing rather than mastering balancing.
Once he was comfortable pushing it around inside, getting on and off and toddling about, we moved on to the garden and local parks. Our toddler’s confidence has grown steadily. At first, he enjoyed being pushed around on it, but now confidently balances along with an occasional scoot and feet up.
Over the course of six months, the bike has stood up impressively well to regular use and transportation. There have been no visible signs of wear or damage, which speaks to the durability of the materials, despite the slightly plasticky feel. The tyres have coped well with a mix of smooth and slightly uneven surfaces, and the lightweight frame has made it easy to transport between locations.
The Be Fun Wheels balance bike folding mechanism
The folding mechanism is a standout feature, it’s simple, quick, and satisfying to use. Folding and unfolding can be done in seconds and the handlebar detaches completely for ultra-compact storage.
The included carry bag is a nice touch, but it’s flimsy and unlikely to withstand much use. That said, the bike does fit in it easily.
While we wouldn’t base a bike-buying decision solely on the folding function, it does offer several benefits:
- Great for stashing in the hallway, car boot, or under the buggy.
- When folded, the bike locks in place and becomes unusable for a toddler, a surprising but appreciated feature when trying to keep muddy tyres off your carpets!
In truth, it’s the security aspect of the fold, rather than the portability, that we’ve found most valuable.
Thoughts from the Sprog
“Big bike!”- limited words from our toddler, but he really enjoys playing with it!
Overall verdict of the Be Fun Wheels folding balance bike
The Be Fun Wheels folding balance bike is a clever, thoughtfully designed option for families looking for a budget-friendly, lightweight, portable balance bike. It has some fun extras (a compass) and clever design features (like the seat alignment system) that make it feel different from standard balance bikes and great value for the price tag.
However, it’s not without limitations. It's sizing won’t suit very young toddlers, and the plastic build might not appeal to those looking for a more premium feel.
While we wouldn’t pay a large premium just for the folding feature, the fact that this is one of the cheaper balance bikes on the market makes it an excellent choice for those who want something practical, lightweight and adjustable without a high price tag.
