Gear up for family cycling adventures: join us at the Cycle Touring Festival!
Are you a parent eager to embark on cycling adventures with your children but feeling overwhelmed by the plethora of equipment options available?
Look no further!
Join Karen Gee, the founder of Cycle Sprog, at the Cycle Touring Festival on Sunday 5th May for an afternoon dedicated to empowering parents like you to kickstart your family cycling journey.
Karen's passion for cycling adventures has transformed her family's life, evolving from short balance biking jaunts to epic month-long road trips.
Her expertise lies in navigating the maze of child-carrying and pulling equipment, acquired through 12 years of running Cycle Sprog - the website dedicated to all things family cycling.
During her session, Karen will guide you through the array of options available for safely transporting your child by bike at different stages of their development.
From front and rear bike seats to trailers, tagalongs, and innovative solutions like the FollowMe Tandem, Karen will demystify the process, helping you choose the perfect gear for your family's needs.
Joining Karen is Chris Leakey, a seasoned cycling adventurer and dad of two. Chris set up Bambino Biking in Manchester to allow other parents to test out cycling equipment before moving to head up the team at Manchester Cycles.
With extensive experience in running “try-before-you-buy” sessions, Chris will have a range of family cycling equipment available for you to test.
But that's not all!
Throughout the afternoon, you'll hear inspiring tales from parents who have embarked upon epic bikepacking adventures with their little ones. Gain firsthand knowledge, tips, and tricks to make your own family cycling escapades a roaring success.
In addition to enlightening talks, there will be cycling-related activities to keep your little ones entertained while you soak up invaluable advice.

Keep the school run rolling this term
Term is well underway, routines are settling in, and that makes now a good moment to build cycling into everyday life, not just at the start of term but for the weeks ahead.
If you've been meaning to try cycling to school, there's still no pressure to do it every day: even once a week is a great way to build confidence and get everyone comfortable on their bikes.
The mornings are noticeably cooler now, and the evenings are drawing in too, so it's worth thinking about layers, lights and waterproof bits sooner rather than later. A little planning helps: finding routes that avoid the worst of the traffic, and building in a bit of extra time while everyone gets used to riding in the dimmer light.
Whether it's the ride to the school gates, a weekend trail or just a spin round the block, every journey this term is a chance to build confidence, stay active and make cycling part of family life. Half term is coming up too, a great excuse for a longer ride together.
Explore our guides for getting kitted out for cooler days, route planning and tips to help your family cycle to school with confidence this term.
