Balance bikes

Balance bikes are a brilliant invention! They’re a great way to get your child confident on two wheels before they’re ready to move on to a pedal bike. A balance bike will remove the need for using stabilisers for the majority of kids and are a lot more fun (and fast!)

While most balance bikes are aimed at children aged between about 2.5 and 4 years, there’s also plenty of options for younger and older kids, and even balance bikes that convert into pedal bikes.

You  may already have noticed that there’s a huge choice of balance bikes available aimed at all budgets which can be very confusing.

That’s where Cycle Sprog is here to help! We’ve done the research plus got feedback from loads of parents to generate our lists of recommended balance bikes.

We include new, second-hand and leasing options (where available) so you should be able to choose the perfect balance bike for your budding Cycle Sprog at a price that’s right for you.

Hi
I would be very grateful if you could give me some advice. I would like to buy a balance bike for my 11 year old grandson who has not ridden a bike before and has some minor disabilities. I have looked online for ages and can’t seem to find any balance bikes for bigger kids. Do you know of anyone who makes them?

Many thanks.

SueS.

Hi Sue
Thanks for your question. You don’t say how tall your grandson is, but we have an article that might be helpful in the first instance – Big Balance Bikes for Taller Children. We’d also recommend asking your question on the Family Cycling UK group on Facebook. They are a large community of cycling families, very inclusive, and we’re sure that some would be able to offer first hand advice on larger balance bikes. If you use the search function, you may find someone has already asked a similar question. We hope this helps. Kind regards, Penny
