Frog 73

Frog 73

There’s no doubting that Frog bikes are popular, and with good reason. They tapped into a rich seam of need for quality kids bikes at just the right time and delivered exactly what the kids bike buying public wanted – a great looking, well-specified lightweight bike that will last several kids and still be going strong.

Frog currently have three frame sizes with 26″ wheels.

The Frog 73 is the middle of the three bikes, for those with a minimum inside leg of 73cm. Frog say this is typically children aged between 12 and 14 years of age, but kids vary so much and seem to be getting taller much younger these days so don’t be surprised if your child is younger than this guideline age.

If this bike is too small, then for older / taller kids the Frog 78 is the largest bike in their range. The smallest of their 26″ wheelers is the Frog 69 (for kids with a minimum inside leg of 69cm) so there’s plenty of choice in this wheel size.

Measure your child carefully to see which 26″ wheel Frog bike is the best fit for them.

The Frog 73 is a good all round bike which will be happy on most terrains so ideal for children who ride anywhere and aren’t specializing in any one particular kind of cycling.

It has an 8 speed Shimano gear system operated by thumb shifters and having an 11-32T cassette, which should be good for all but the steepest hills.

The handlebars can be lowered or raised within a range of 54mm plus the quick release seat post makes adjusting the saddle height is easy to do. This means your child should get a decent amount of time on this bike.

The larger Frog bikes have lost the childish branding of the smaller bikes, so should appeal to an older audience.

However if you have a shorter but older child (particularly an image conscious one in their teens) don’t be surprised if you find some resistance and the desire to move onto a more “adult” brand, as Frog is very much known as a kids bike brand.

We haven’t reviewed the 26″ wheel Frog hybrids, but we have reviewed three other geared Frog Bikes so are happy to recommend this bike to you.
