Hornit AIRO 12
The Hornit AIRO 12 is a mid-range, quality build balance bike that is a fun introduction to two wheels for children from around 18 months old.
We were extremely impressed in our full review of the Hornit AIRO 12, noting it’s one of the lightest balance bikes available, which is fantastic for both the child to manoeuvre and for you to carry when they’re done riding!
It’s great for mixed terrain cycling thanks to its lightweight magnesium alloy frame and proper pneumatic tyres, offering a much smoother ride than models with solid tyres.
Thoughtful features like a low saddle height for tiny legs and a footrest for when your little one gains speed make this a solid, dependable choice.

BTWIN Runride 900 balance bike
The BTWIN Runride 900 balance bike is a solid mid-range option that offers good value for a child’s first two-wheeled experience.
This bike is lightweight at only 3.4kg, which makes it much easier for little ones to handle and control as they learn the ropes of balancing.
One of the standout features is the rear V-brake, which introduces your child to using hand brakes early, preparing them for a pedal bike when the time comes.
While Cycle Sprog hasn’t reviewed this exact model, we have looked at the brand’s other offerings and have been impressed with the quality and approachability of BTWIN kids’ bikes.

Zinc Flyte Dash
The Zinc Flyte is a 12” wheel balance bike with solid tyres, making it more suitable to indoor riding than outdoor, as well as a well-placed footrest for when they pick up speed.
Despite the fact that it’s not ideal for cycling outside, it does come with a built-in rear mudguard, so if your little one is comfortable enough with the solid tyres on uneven surfaces, then at least it’ll keep the road spray at bay.
