What’s hot in family cycling this month – July 2013

Finally, after months of waiting, we can finally say that the weather is hot!  There’s also the small matter of the worlds biggest bike ride and a couple of new arrivals this month. We’ve got it all covered here at Cycle Sprog – from our kids guide to TdF to what gifts to buy a royal baby!

It’s going to be hot!

Summer has at long last made more than a two day appearance, and it looks as if the next week at least will be lovely and warm for most parts of the UK

One thing you don’t want to be too hot this month is the kids.  If you’re out on a family bike ride in the hot weather, there are a few things you need to remember to keep the kids safe and well.

Obviously, you need to keep them drinking water and stop them from getting sunburn. But there’s a couple of other things it’s worth thinking about before you set off, so check out our handy Cycle Sprog Guide: “10 ways to keep your kids safe when cycling on a hot day”.

A good way to keep them cool while riding their bikes is with clothing that wicks away the sweat.  Go Outdoors have some really fantastic deals on these tops at the moment.  We particularly like this Regatta Sonic Kids T-Shirt, which not only comes in ages from 3 through to 12, but has 4 different styles and colours.

What sets it apart from others on the market is there is a blue t-shirt for girls – so if you’re daughter is fed up with the pink theme, this is the perfect choice!

Available from Go-Outdoors priced £5.99 if you have a discount card (£10 without)

Kids guide to TdF

The 100th Tour de France is set to be another thriller this year, and at the time of writing both Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome have already won a stage apiece.

It can be difficult to explain the details and rules of the Tour de France to children (especially if you’re trying to watch the action), so we’ve kindly produced a series of useful guides for children, all about the Tour de France.

From explaining what the different jersey colours mean, through to some fun games and other activities to keep them occupied while you watch the race, we’ve got everything you need to see your kids through the next couple of weeks

Emulating their Tour de France heroes

If the kids are enjoying the TdF and want to be more like their favourite riders, we’ve got details on where you can find child size yellow jersey’s.

Of course the ultimate for any Tour mad kid would be their very own race bike, such as this impressively styled and equipped Kona Jake 24″ wheel road bike from Evans Cycles.

For other 20″ and 24″ wheel road racing bikes for kids, check out our guide.

Royal Babies take centre stage

Tour de France Polka Dot baby body suit for TdF fansCycling royalty Dame Sarah Storey and her husband Bernie have produced the first heir of the summer with the birth of their first child, and of course, Kate and William are due to follow suit shortly.

One has been rather busy hunting down cycling inspired presents for new born babies – they’re almost enough to make one broody again.

This cute little Tour de France babygro is perfect for a future King of the Mountain!
