The Cycle Sprog team are INCREDIBLY proud to have been finalists in the Cycling Media of the Year Category at the 2025 BikeBiz Awards.
To be recognised alongside some of the biggest names in the cycling industry's major awards ceremony, was such a big achievement for us as a small, independent business.
The evening took place at the Button Factory in Birmingham and was a chance for the Cycle Sprog team of Emily, Karen, Mildred and Saskia to get together and meet up with old friends, and make some new ones.
We hadn’t even entered the Button Factory in Birmingham when we bumped into Shuvo Dev, who runs YOMO Bikes. He kindly took this photo of us outside!
Shuvo reached out to Cycle Sprog several years ago, just as he was launching YOMO Bikes, and we’ve been able to help him get the word out about their great kids bikes to our audience of bike buying parents.
It was lovely to find out how things are going as he grows the business, and hear about his plans for the future of YOMO.

We were super excited to meet up again with some of the team from Bike Worcester.

It’s over 6 months now since they organised the 2025 Global Bike Bus Summit - an incredible two day festival of all things Bike Bus. It was a joyous event, organised entirely by volunteers.
Bike Worcester were finalists in the Event of the Year, and it felt fitting this was happening during Bike To School Week.
If you missed our write up of the Summit you can catch up here: Joy on two wheels: the 2025 Global Bike Bus Summit in Worcester
Reid Bikes were sponsoring the Retailers category. You may not have heard of them, as they don’t currently have a kids bike available here in the UK, but we got a quick sneak peek at one of their new range of kids bikes that is hopefully coming to the UK very soon.

Probably one of the most inspiring stories we heard was from Ryan and Drew from FEL Scotland and we were delighted when they were announced as the winners of the Cycle Advocacy Award, sponsored by Bikeability.
FEL Scotland are helping children and families across the Forth Valley discover the benefits of cycling for everyday journeys.
Their work ranges from school-based Active Travel Hubs to providing free bikes for pupils who need them.
They aim to give young people the confidence and opportunity to choose two wheels more often, and are empowering hundreds of kids each year.
Unsung Hero of the Year was John Russel, Life Cycle’s Prison Learning & Skills Manager. John leads Bikes Beyond Bars, a prison training scheme, which operates in prisons across the Midlands and South West, transforming the lives of hundreds of prisoners each year.
Learners can gain an internationally recognised Cytech qualification in bike maintenance, as well as a renewed sense of direction. 92% of participants express an interest in progressing to further training upon release.
It was great to meet Hannah Dobson, who is one of the founding members and moderator of the Family Cycling UK Facebook Group.
She was a hugely influential voice during her time as Editor at Singletrack magazine and is now spreading the joy in a more practical way through her work in the pump track industry for Velosolutions.
Talking to last year's BikeBiz Woman of the Year Kalyani Verma was really eye opening.
Kalyani is an engineer at Brompton Bikes, and hearing her views on the lack of women in the design and production stages of the bike industry was a chance to reflect on how products could be improved with a wider range of inputs at these stages.
Whilst the cycling industry has started to address issues of diversity, Miles Baker-Clarke who was named “Diversity Champion” for his work with Cycling Culture Club, (a platform dedicated to diversifying cycling by sharing stories from voices seldom heard, from people who are wildly underrepresented) reminded everyone there that there is SUCH a long way to go.
One common theme that came up time again in both acceptance speeches and conversations was just how hard it’s been for the cycling industry over the past 4 and a half years.
As a very small independent business hit by one thing after another for years on end, it was a huge relief to realise we’ve not been alone in wondering when easier times will return.
Whilst the mood of the night was one of positivity and celebration, it was underpinned by the knowledge that there’s still a lot for organisations and the industry as a whole to cope with.

The 2025 BikeBiz Woman of the Year Award was Emily Childs, who spoke about her journey from behind the scenes to being in front of the camera at Cade Media, the rapidly growing YouTube channel she is a co-host of.
It was good to see Outspoken Cycles being recognised as “Specialist Retailer of the Year” as they do fabulous work getting more families onto cargo bikes in the Cambridge area.
There were loads of other deserving winners across the categories (you can see the full list here).
Finally, the bit we were all waiting for arrived.
Would Bike Worcester win Event of the Year?
The tension mounted, and their very vocal team were ramping up the excitement in the room with whoops and cheers as the nominations were read out.
Sadly, it was not to be. The award went to The Gralloch, a massive celebration of gravel riding that takes place in the Galloway Forest. It’s the UK’s biggest gravel race (and a UCI qualifier) along with a weekend family friendly festival of all things gravel riding.
Obviously they were incredibly worthy winners, but in our eyes so too were all the volunteers at Bike Worcester for hosting a fabulous event that brought people from around the world together with the aim of getting more children cycling to school.
The last announcement was for Cycling Media of the Year Award which was deservedly won by Cade Media.
But that didn’t stop us celebrating Cycle Sprog as the best family cycling website of all time!!
And before we arrived at the awards I had been quietly confident that Saskia would win if there was a “Sparkly Silver Clothing” award, with her fabulous silver skirt which transitions perfectly from the practicality of riding her cargo bike to the station to the “glamour” of a cycling awards evening.
But that was before seeing Katie Collier from Bike Worcester!
Big thanks to Lauren Jenkins, Richard Settler and the team at BikeBiz for an amazing evening.
And a massively huge thank you to everyone who voted for Cycle Sprog – it really does mean the world to us.
