Are you ready for “Stories from the school run” week?
It happens millions of time every day. It takes organisation, patience and sometimes courage. It happens come rain or shine, 5 days a week, and has been known, on occasions to involve shouting, crying and cuddles (and that’s just from the adults involved!) I’m of course referring to the school run.
Wouldn’t it be great if everyone in the UK had the choice of how to get to school? Walking, cycling, scooting, public transport or car. However, for many families it’s just not safe enough to cycle, and in some cases even walk, to school. This means that short journeys, that could be made by bike, scooter or foot, are made by car. Which of course makes it even less likely that people will choose active transport for their next journey.
Now is the chance to share your experiences of what makes up your school run, to help show those who make the decisions about our local road networks, what it’s really like getting to school – in places where cycling provision is good, and where it is not. Provision for cyclists so often focuses on city centres (London in particular), and leisure trails, and not where the majority of families in the UK live their lives.
18th – 22nd April 2016 is “Stories from the School Run” week. It’s your chance to share your videos, photos and words about your school run. Do you have a safe route you can cycle, scoot or walk to school? Do you have to go miles out of your way to ride a safe route to school? Are you confided to the car?
See the Stories from the School Run website for more details, and don’t forget to share on twitter with the hashtag #schoolrunstories
