Kiddimoto launch £10,000 crowdfunding campaign
Back in September we reported that Kiddimoto, best known for their decorative balance bikes and accessories, were going to be branching out into producing kids 16″ and 20″ wheel bikes.
They have now launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of the Darwin range of bikes. With less than a month remaining to raise £10,000, it’s going to be interesting to see whether there is demand for new kids bike brand
The Kickstarter campaign gives more details on the specification and price of the bikes – with the 16″ bike having an RRP of £350 and the 20″ Darwin coming in at £495. Both bikes are belt rather than chain driven, no doubt taking inspiration from the Early Rider belters.
At these prices, the Darwin is putting itself firmly at the top of the kids bike pricing, although it will be interesting to see if those prices are maintained once the bikes are in full production.
The first 50 people to support the campaign by buying a full bike will get an Early Bird discount of 45% on the RRP, whilst subsequent supporters will get 28% off the final price.
Bike delivery is anticipated for April 2018, but could be later, as the website explains:
“These bikes are being manufactured in China and therefore this stage of the project is largely out of our hands. Having said that, communication is very good and we have a strong relationship with this well organised and clean factory. Please be aware that some problems may arise such as if they fall behind timelines. This is out of our control but we endeavour to keep you updated every step of the way.”
If you would like to be one of the first people to own a Kiddimoto Darwin bike you have until Thursday December 7th to sign up.
