Best cycling presents for a 4 year old this Christmas
Christmas is coming, and if you're wondering what to buy for a cycle obsessed 4 year old don't worry - help is at hand! for those who just love to be on two wheels, here's our guide to the best cycling presents for a 4 year old this Christmas.
A bike is for life, not just for Christmas!
Of course, the ultimate Christmas present has to be a brand new bike! The excitement of seeing that unmistakable shape under the tree is both wonderful to plan for and to see on the day. You might want to check out our post 12 things you need to know before buying a kids bike this Christmas to make sure you're picking the very best bike for your child.
The 2017 Early Rider Belter Trail 16"
If you want your child to be the envy of everyone on the trail, then the Early Rider Belter Trail will certainly do the trick. Early Rider bikes are renowned for their stylish design, coupled with serious componentry.
New for 2017 is the Trail version of their Belter 16. It comes well equipped with Ritchey components and some exclusive 16" Maxxis Maxx Daddy tyres to get through the mud. The best bit for parents though is the belt drive - unlike a chain is doesn't get mucked up, so there's a lot less maintenance after a day on the trails. It's also quiet in operation and lighter than a chain. On the topic of weight, the Belter 16 trail comes in at an impressive 5.65kg.
If the Early Rider is a bit extreme for your child, then the Frog 48 is the perfect kids bike for all-round cycling.
As it comes with two sets of Kendra tyres - a hybrid and a knobbly set - the Frog 48 can handle everything you throw at it, from the local park to trails and the pre-school run to long family rides.
There is a great range of colours and designs so you can have fun deciding which will get the most smiles come Christmas morning.
We've listed 16" wheeled bikes here. If you child isn't quite tall enough, look for a smaller 14" bike.

Cycling gifts can come in all shapes and sizes, so we've picked some really fun cycling accessories, clothing and books for your 4 year old.
Wild at Heart (and head)
It's fair to say everyone has gone Planet Earth II crazy the past month, so why not bring a little bit of wildlife fun to your family cycle rides?
Crazy Stuff's helmets are designed in Denmark and tested to EN 1078, which is the same as BS EN 1078:1997 (the Safety Standard for Helmets for pedal cyclists and for users of skateboards and roller skates). So, should the need arise they will do the job of protecting your little one.
There are far too many different designs of Crazy Stuff helmets to list - take a look for yourself on Amazon - they start at £19.99 and come in three different sizes.
Keeping with the wildlife theme, the Mini Hornet is the perfect present if you're buying for a child you're never going to actually cycle with. As seen on The Dragon's Den, the Mini Hornet is a cleverly designed bike light, bell and siren. A remote trigger which sits near the brake means that it can be operated without having to take your hands off the handlebars. There are 25 sounds to switch between - including horn, cockerel, motorbike, UFO, police car, horses hooves, racing car, magic spell, a lion's roar and even an old-fashioned bike bell - so you can be sure that you'll never get bored listening to it.
It's rare to find great quality kids cycling clothing in sizes smaller than age 5. We were delighted when we came across ShredXS at the Cycle Show earlier in the year as they start their 'downhill' jerseys from age three years.
The ShredXS Downhill Jersey comes in two designs, and retails at £24 from the ShredXS website. The XXS fits ages 3-4 years and the XS ages 5-6 years.
Get a grip
You may have to wait until next July before 'Le Tour' hits our screens again, but your pre-schooler can get into the spirit all year round with these great Tour de France gloves. You never know, but the time your daughter is old enough, she may even be able to ride the race!
The Tour de France kids cycling gloves come in three sizes (S, M and L) and cost £4.99 from Amazon.
Stick with it
The Usborne sticker books are always great fun, but of course the cycling one is the only one worth considering for a cycle-mad child!
The First Sticker Book of Cycling is available from Amazon for £4.99.
Franklin Learns to Ride a Bike
If the recipient of your gift is in the process of learning to ride a bike, then they will sympathise with Franklin. An energetic young turtle who just can't seem to get the hang of pedalling (although perhaps he needs a balance bike, rather than stabilisers!)
Franklin Rides a Bike by Amazon for £4.88and illustrated by Brenda Clark is available from
Oso En Bicicleta
Help encourage a passion for languages as well as cycling with this book - text is in English and Spanish, so by New Year the entire family should be fluent in 'cycle-speak', Spanish style!
