Deals on e-bikes: pick up a cheap electric bike for 2019
E-bikes (also known as electric bikes or e-assist) are becoming increasingly popular, especially for family cycling. An e-bike helps parents carry / tow their child when they're little, and keep up with them when they're older. The only problem is they tend to cost quite a bit more than their equivalent non-electric bike, which is why we're here to help you hunt down a bargain. In this post we'll be looking for the best e-bike bargains in reputable bike stores at the moment.
2019 E-bike deals
Tredz have up to 25% off a huge selection of electric bikes, plus they also provide free home delivery and offer interest free credit with no deposit. They have one of the biggest ranges of e-bikes in the UK and a team of experts who can help you select the best e-bike for you.
If you're looking for a hybrid style ebike that gives flexibility for the types of riding you do then the Quick Neo Tourer from Cannondale might be for you. Equipped for daily duties it comes ready fitted with mudguards and integrated lights, plus there's a useful pannier rack at the rear. There's a 63mm travel fork to take the edge off potholes or venturing onto canal towpaths and there's a 10 speed drivetrain mated to a Shimano Steps motor.
You can take advantage of the latest technologies coming onto the e-bike scene too! For example the Haibike SDURO HardSeven 1.0 27.5" 2019 is an entry level electric mountain bike, which will provide a comfortable ride on the trails - great for keeping up with the Sprogs on the hills.
It's a 2019 model bike, powered by a new Yamaha PW-SE motor with front SR Suntour forks and a 9 speed Shimano drivetrain.
This is obviously an off road bike, so if you're looking for more of an about town type of e-bike, then Tredz are also discounting a lot of their Raleigh e-bikes. This includes a much cheaper, around town e-bike - the Raleigh Array E-motion (£989.99) which comes in the women's step through frame (shown below) and a men's version with a cross bar.
Reduced from £1,100, this is one of the cheapest ways to get onto an e-bike around at the moment.
Tredz are currently discounting the Cube Touring Hybrid One 500 2018 - Electric Hybrid Bike (now £1,599 - a £400 saving!) which is suitable for effortless cycling on roads, cycle paths and even forest trails - great for those family bike rides at weekends, as well as some weekday commuting.
The Cube Touring Hybrid One 500 2018 - Electric Hybrid Bike is discounted from £1,999 to £1,599 - a massive £400 saving! Plus you get free home delivery.
Wiggle - up to 40% off e-bikes
Wiggle have a good range of e-bikes with some very hefty discounts at the moment. Obviously, once they've gone, they've gone - these are selling very fast!
Ghost Teru B5.7+ E-Bike 2018
The Ghost Teru B5.7+ is an e-mountain bike from the quality German manufacturer Ghost that comes with a great specification if you're looking to give electric mountain biking a go in 2019. The high-torque Bosch Performance CX motor and 500Wh powerpack will give you the extra oomph to get up the hills whilst the 120mm Suntour forks will soak up the bumps on the way down with the all important Tektro Slate 4-piston disc brakes helping you stop quickly when needed.
Vitus have a rich history in cycling, starting in the 1970's as leaders in the development of aluminium frames. Move forward to the present day and Vitus are not resting on their laurels but still pushing boundaries and creating cutting edge bikes for today.
The E-Sentier VR hardtail has a specification and style that represents great value for money. It's also a very stylish looking bike with a great colour scheme and slender design. There's an 11 speed drivetrain that uses a Shimano SLX chainset and shifters matched up to a Shimano XT rear mech for quality changing. On the power front, the motor is the much feted Shimano Steps E8000, which is compact, lightweight and pretty powerful. At the front the Rockshox Revelation RC fork provides a useful 140mm of travel.
Braking is provided by SRAM from the well respected Guide groupset, incorporating 200mm rotors to really give some bite. There's also a dropper seatpost and a wheelset provided by DT Swiss.
Another great urban bicycle, this time from famed Italian brand Wilier, the creators of very fine road bikes. The Magneto is based around an aluminium frame and forks with a 10 speed Shimano XT drivetrain joining forces with a Shimano Steps motor. There's a pannier rack and mudguards plus Tektro disc brakes to keep speed in check. The battery can be mounted either on the pannier rack or on the downtube.
Chain Reaction Cycles are also discounting a number of their 2018 e-bikes to make way for the 2019 stock. They have more Ghost bikes, plus lots of Cube electric bikes and some Vitus bikes discounted.
Leisure Lakes Bikes - UP TO 45% OFF EBIKES!
Fitted with Shimano disc brakes, this bike will have good stopping power on the trails, when you need it, but is versatile enough to still be ridden on the road.
Electric road bikes that don't look like e-bikes!
If you're struggling to keep up with your Cycle Sprog on the roads, then the Orbea Gain range are designed to look very much like standard road bikes, but with electric motors to help you power up the hills, and keep a consistent pace on the flat. Their cheapest offering is the Orbea Gain F40 which has flat handlebars for those who prefer not to have drop handlebars. It costs £1,699 and is available from Tredz, who offer free home delivery and interest free finance.
The Orbea Gain range also includes some reasonably priced (for an e-bike!) road bikes, including this stunning looking Orbea Gain D30 (RRP £2,299) which has the battery hidden so well few would suspect that you're using a motor as you chase your Sprog along the road!
Women's Electric Hybrid Bike
Rutland Cycles have the Cannondale Quick Neo Tourer Womens 2018 Electric Hybrid Bike reduced from £2500 to £1499 a whopping 40% (or £1,000) off the original price. They also give free UK delivery.
The 2018 Quick Neo is Cannondales answer to a women's electric hybrid bike, featuring a Shimano STEPs eDrive system and a Suntour 63mm suspension fork. This bike will get you around quickly and comfortably - whether on city roads, or on gentle off road riding, such as canal towpaths. It includes front and rear lights, rear carry rack, plus a kickstand as standard.
Ex-hire e-bikes at a discount
Another way to find a cheap e-bike is to look for an ex-hire electric bike. Many bike shops are now doing bike rentals, as renting an e-bike can be a popular way to find out if you like a particular model. Over time, as stock changes, the bike shop will be left with the ex-hire models that they want to sell on. You can check out your local bike hire locations, or else check out Rutland Cycles to see what ex-hire e-bikes they have to buy These bikes will have been ridden outside, so expect some wear and tear. Often you can get over 50% off - but you need to be quick - once they've gone, they've gone! Some are home delivery, so are collection only.
Ex-demo electric bikes sold cheaply
Similar to ex-hire bikes, ex-demo bikes will have been used in store to allow potential customers to try them out. They're usually available at the end of each season (so generally autumn) when shops start to take delivery of the next years stock.
Once the shop has sold out of a particular model, they're left with just the demo bike to sell on cheaply. Evans Cycles often have ex-demonstration e-bikes for sale with discounts up to 30% off. The links are:
Ex-demo bikes may not even have left the shop, but do expect some surface scratching where multiple people have tried sitting on the bike in store.
