It’s a horrid feeling when you see your jacket in the sale!
Just in case you’ve not heard, it’s Black Friday this Friday. It can be a good time to pick up a few pre-Christmas bargains – be that a present or something you’ve been meaning to buy to help you continue cycling throughout the winter, and into next summer.
Some of the online retailers have started their Black Friday discounts early this year, so I couldn’t resist having a quick peak at what they’ve got available.
Tredz have a few deals to tempt us in before Friday’s heavy discounting begins. The one that caught my eye was the Women’s Altura Night Vision Jacket – down from £99 to £37.99. Why? Because I paid £99 for mine last year…. ggrr!! That said, it’s survived a fully winter of riding in the Cumbrian weather, and is still looking as good as new.
I’m dry when I arrive in the office each morning, and I like the blue because it doesn’t look too day-glo when I go out wearing it at lunchtime. The visibility on these jackets is some of the best around – whether you’re riding with your kids, or on your own, this is so important during the winter months.

Evans Cycles Black Friday Deals
Evans have already discounted a few items in the run up to Black Friday, including 40% off Camelbaks
I’ve been meaning to get one of these for ages now – and after a particularly muddy MTB ride last week these are definitely going on my Christmas list.
The kids sizes aren’t currently reduced, but I’m keeping my eyes open on Friday for a good deal on these too.
Each year we talk about doing some serious cycle touring, and debate which bikes we’d be able to adapt to take all the luggage needed. Perhaps we need this Dawes Gran Tour 725 2016 Touring Bike?
It’s down from £1,800 to £1,169, but unfortunately I don’t think we can justify yet another bike!!!!

Rutland have probably got the best range of Pre Black Friday deals of all the on-line retailers. Some of the biggest discounts are on their ex-hire models, which have been used to ride round Rutland Water.
They have a large range of men’s and women’s bikes with good reductions, including a lot of the Liv Women’s Bike range. For those of you struggling with the comfort of your bike post-pregnancy, I found moving to a women’s specific Liv Avail knocked all the aches and pains on the head. I won’t go into detail here, but if it’s of interest let me know and I’ll add it to the list of “posts to write in the future” (which is getting longer by the day!)
Moving onto kids bike, they’ve got the Early Rider Road Runner Balance Bike down to £109 (from £169) in their Black Friday Kids Bike deals. I fell in love with this balance bike at the Birmingham Cycle Show earlier this year – I just don’t have kids small enough to ride one any more!
I remember the first year we got the boys bikes for Christmas – we really struggled to work out how to wrap them, and ended up hiding them behind the sofa. Then we discovered the Christmas Bike Gift Wrapping Paper Bag. Rutland have them down from £9.99 to £4.99, which will save a fortune in wrapping paper or remove the risk of getting oil on the sofa! They’re available in adult and kids sizes.Rutland also have 50% off women’s and men’s Maddison shower proof jackets, which fit in a tiny stuff sack. This type of jacket is ideal if you’re needing to save on space in your racksack for all the kid’s layers – sometimes I store mine in my spare bottle cage when space gets really tight (as you can see in the “muddy” photo above sometimes this isn’t such a good idea!!)
Finally, Rutland have a great selection of lights in their Pre Black Friday sale, including Leyzne Front and Rear bike lights down from £12.99 to just £5 each. I need to get some more bike lights as we’re constantly scrabbling round trying to find enough lights to go around – they just seem to go walk about!
BOOKMARK: You can view all the Rutland Black Friday deals here.
There are other online cycle retailers with Pre-Black Friday deals which you might want to check out. I didn’t think that they had as many “family cycling” products but of course if you’re looking to treat yourself or your other half, then there’s plenty to choose from (just don’t blame me when you get your credit card bill!)
